Jerusalem, 19 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — After the recent war with Iran, Israel’s Ministry of Construction and Housing is promoting an amendment to the Contractor Registration Regulations, which will create a new registration track adapted for small renovation contractors, with the aim of enabling the entry into the Contractors Register of many professionals who were unable to register under the existing track.

The need to promote repair arose following the lessons of the war and the challenges that emerged from the field in the rapid restoration of buildings and war damage, alongside the shortage of registered renovation contractors. During the recent period, the understanding has sharpened that it is necessary to expand the pool of renovation contractors operating within a regulated framework, in order to enable a faster, more professional and safer response, both in routine and in times of emergency.

Currently, anyone who performs renovation work without a license can only perform work worth up to NIS 50,000. Work beyond that is a violation of the law. According to the proposed amendment, a new classification, “special type,” will be created, which will allow renovation contractors to perform work worth up to NIS 200,000, thus allowing many small renovation contractors to enter the framework of the law and supervision.
