Netanyahu, Defense Minister Katz Hold Situation Assessment on Gaza Kite, Drone Threats
PM Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz met with IDF leadership to assess Gaza kite and drone threats, warning Hamas of escalated countermeasures.
Jerusalem, 23 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz held a situation assessment Sunday evening regarding the threat of drone, balloon and kite launches from the Gaza Strip toward Israel, attended by IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, the head of the National Security Council, and senior IDF officials.
The assessment followed reports of four terrorist kites landing in Israeli territory over the weekend after being launched from Gaza.
Israel warned Hamas that if the launches do not cease immediately, the IDF will escalate targeted countermeasures against those responsible and evacuate populations from launch areas.
Netanyahu said Israel “will not return to the reality prior to October 7” and will not allow Hamas or any other entity in Gaza “to return to threatening our communities.”
