$58 Million Allocated for Environmental Approvements in the North

Israel's Ministry of Environmental Protection will invest $58 million in environmental upgrades for northern Israel, focusing on waste treatment and public.

Jerusalem, 11 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Ministry of Environmental Protection will invest approximately 175 million Shekels ($58 million) in environmental development, addressing environmental hazards, promoting organic waste treatment infrastructure, and providing shade to public spaces in the north of Israel. This is part of a new multi-billion development plan for Northern infrastructure announced today.

Main environmental components of the plan:

Activating a place-based environmental development basket through an investment of up to 80 million shekels in local authorities, for roofing and shading of public spaces with trees, replacing asbestos cement roofs in public and residential buildings, establishing community gardens, and installing and operating systems for detecting loud noise from vehicles.

Allocation of up to 75 million shekels from the Ministry of Environmental Protection’s Cleanup Fund for the promotion of organic waste treatment facilities, with the aim of reducing landfilling, promoting resource recovery, and strengthening waste treatment infrastructure in the northern region.

An investment of up to 14 million shekels from the Cleanup Fund budget to encourage environmental care, restore public spaces, and address environmental hazards within the jurisdiction of the decision-making authorities.

Allocation of up to 6 million shekels to the municipalities of Nof HaGalil and Nazareth equally over the years 2026-2027 for the treatment of waste hazards and the prevention of repeated waste impacts in the areas of the authorities.

Support for Nof Galil and Safed for completing the preparation of climate change preparedness plans for a total of 180,000 shekels.
