Israel Allocates Millions for Northern Israel Welfare Services
Israel allocates 133 million shekels to expand welfare services in Northern Israel, addressing increased needs after prolonged conflict and evacuations.
Jerusalem, 20 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Tnufa Authority for the North and the Welfare and Social Security Ministry announced a joint initiative to allow authorities in the Tnufa region to expand existing programs, launch new ones, and develop regional services shared across multiple authorities for the first time.
The initiative will be funded with approximately 133 million shekels ($39 million) from the government-approved five-year plan of the Tnufa Authority for the North, without requiring additional funding from local authorities.
After more than two years of evacuation, fighting and uncertainty, social service departments in northern communities faced a significant rise in needs while their capacity to expand services remained limited. Each authority will now receive a detailed budget for its social services department for each year of the plan.
The programs will focus on three areas: socioeconomic resilience, community rehabilitation, and welfare services for at-risk children, youth and families.
