Nonprofits Accounted for 5% of Israels GDP in 2025, New Data Shows

New data from Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics shows nonprofits accounted for 5% of the nation's GDP in 2025, with significant income from government.

Jerusalem, 19 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Nonprofit organizations accounted for 5.0% of Israel’s gross domestic product in 2025, according to an early estimate, compared to 5% in 2024 and 5.1% in 2023, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported.

The latest survey, covering 2024, found that nonprofits’ total current income reached approximately 250 billion shekels ($73.5 billion). Government transfers made up 49.8% of that income, followed by service sales (31.2%), donations from Israeli households, businesses and nonprofits (9.2%), donations from abroad (8.1%), and interest income (1.7%).

Total current expenses for nonprofits in 2024 stood at 231.4 billion shekels ($68 billion). Labor costs made up the largest share of expenses in education and research (64.4%) and the smallest in philanthropy and volunteering (7.9%).

In 2025, nonprofits employed 641,546 salaried positions, mostly in education and research (44.5%), alongside 482,120 volunteers, most active in welfare (37.3%).
