Surge in Medical Equipment, Hospital Capacity in Gaza Since Ceasefire
Since the ceasefire, Gaza has received over 21,000 tons of medical equipment and a 50% increase in hospital beds, exceeding UN-defined needs.
Jerusalem, 19 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — COGAT (Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories: Judea and Samaria and towards the Gaza Strip)reported that more than 21,000 tons of medical equipment have entered the Gaza Strip since the start of the ceasefire, with the number of hospital beds increasing by more than 50%.
In coordination with international organizations, advanced medical equipment has also entered Gaza, including X-ray machines, generators and oxygen tanks.
In northern Gaza, eight permanent hospitals, four field hospitals and four medical centers are currently operating. In southern Gaza, two permanent hospitals and eight field hospitals are currently in operation.
COGAT said the volume of aid entering Gaza significantly exceeds the humanitarian needs as defined by UN agencies, international organizations, and assessments conducted throughout the war.
