Jerusalem, 17 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Minister of Immigration and Absorption, Ofir Sofer, is promoting, together with Minister of Defense Israel Katz, Minister of Diaspora and the Fight against Anti-Semitism Amichai Shikli, and the Ministry of Health, a proposed government resolution to establish a dedicated system to strengthen the accompaniment, assistance, and support of immigrants serving in the IDF (Israel Defense Forces), with an emphasis on lone soldiers.
The proposed resolution was formulated against the backdrop of the significant increase in the number of immigrants who chose to come to Israel since the outbreak of the “Renaissance” War, with many of them enlisting for significant service in the IDF and taking an active part in the fighting and Defense of the state.
According to the decision, a dedicated unit will be established in the Ministry of Immigration and Absorption to provide a package of support and assistance to immigrants before, during, and after military service, working in full coordination with the IDF and the Ministry of Defense. The unit will work to strengthen the continuity of care and personal support, to make existing services linguistically and culturally accessible, to assist in exercising rights, and to provide a complementary response in crisis situations, including injury during service or emotional coping.
In addition, the unit will also assist the families of soldiers residing outside Israel, through guidance, mediation, and assistance in understanding the situation with the relevant authorities.
