Move Transferring Activities of Two Psychiatric Hospitals to Other Facilities Expected to Improve Quality of Care
Israel's Health Ministry, Finance Ministry, and Israel Land Authority agreed to transfer psychiatric hospitals to general medical centers, investing $660.
Jerusalem, 10 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance, and the Israel Land Authority signed an agreement today to promote the transfer of the activities of the Mazor and Merhavim psychiatric hospitals to general medical centers, as part of the Ministry of Health’s policy to strengthen the mental health system and integrate it into the general hospitalization system.
As part of the agreement, the Ministry of Health will be allocated approximately two billion Shekels ($660 million) for the planning, construction and establishment of new and advanced hospitalization infrastructure in the field of mental health. The activities of Mazor Hospital in Acre will be transferred to the Galilee Medical Center (Nahariya) and the North Medical Center (Poriya), while the activities of Merhavim Hospital (Beer Yaakov and Ness Ziona) will be transferred to the Shamir Assaf Harofeh Medical Center.
The move, said the government, is expected to bring about a “significant improvement in hospitalization conditions and the quality of treatment, and to enable patients to receive medical and psychological care in an advanced and integrated therapeutic environment, in accordance with the world’s leading professional concepts, while providing a complete response to the needs of both body and mind.”
