Fire Near Afik in Southern Mount Hebron Brought Under Control
Firefighters and aircraft battled a brush fire near Afik in southern Mount Hebron, successfully bringing it under control and protecting homes.
Jerusalem, 19 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Firefighters brought under control a fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon near the community of Afik in southern Mount Hebron.
Upon receiving reports of the fire, numerous teams were dispatched to the scene, including volunteer firefighting crews, farmers from nearby farms, and teams from neighboring districts.
After assessing the situation and determining that the fire was moving through nearby brush and threatening to reach residents’ homes, firefighting aircraft from the “Elad” squadron were dispatched.
Teams operated on several fire fronts and halted the blaze’s spread.
Deputy Superintendent Tamir Erez, commander of the Judea Regional Station, said, “A rapid and powerful response prevented the fire from spreading to residents’ homes.” He added that he conducted a risk assessment early in the incident, prompting the deployment of significant forces in full cooperation with security and emergency bodies.
