Rabid Jackal Found in Dalton in the Upper Galilee

Urgent Alert: Rabid jackal discovered in Dalton, Upper Galilee. If exposed to the infected animal between Nov 18 - Dec 3, contact Safed Health Bureau now.

Description of Animal: Today (Sun, Dec 7, 2025), a report was received about a jackal infected with rabies in the town of Dalton in the Upper Galilee.

Dates: Nov 18, 2025 – Dec 3, 2025, inclusive

Description: One person who was exposed to the jackal was referred for preventive rabies treatment.
 
Anyone who was in contact with the infected animal or whose pets came into contact with the infected or stray animal in the area between Nov 18, 2025, and Dec 3, 2025, inclusive, should urgently contact the Safed Health Bureau at 04-6994257 or 04-6994200, or their nearest health bureau to consider preventive treatment. 

After office hours and on weekends, contact the emergency room at a Hospital.

The Ministry of Health recommends:

  • Parents—check if your children had any contact with suspicious animals and contact the health bureau immediately.
  • Pet owners—contact your local veterinarian to verify your pets’ vaccination status.

The Ministry of Health reminds anyone bitten or scratched by an animal to immediately wash the area with running water and soap, disinfect it, and visit the health bureau to determine if preventive rabies treatment is needed.
