Beirut Not Off Limits, Netanyahu Warns

Jerusalem, 1 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz on Monday ordered Israeli strikes on Beirut’s Dahiyeh district, a Hezbollah stronghold in the Lebanese capital. The announcement came as Hezbollah rocket and drone attacks persisted.

“There will not be a situation in which Hezbollah attacks our cities and citizens while the terrorist headquarters in Dahiyeh remains out of bounds,” Netanyahu said. “We are continuing to deepen our operational activity on the ground in southern Lebanon and are eliminating Hezbollah strongholds. Hezbollah is on the run.”

Katz said the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) were making “significant gains” in air and land operations against the Iran-backed terror organization, with the goal of securing the Litani region and making it free of Hezbollah and weapons.

The IDF is widely expected to warn residents of certain areas of Beirut to evacuate in the coming hours.

In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi tweeted that the fighting in Lebanon violated the US–Iran ceasefire.

“The ceasefire between Iran and the US is unequivocally a ceasefire on all fronts, including in Lebanon. Its violation on one front is a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts,” Araghchi posted. “The US and Israel are responsible for the consequences of any violation.”

Dahiyeh is a Shi’ite neighborhood where numerous Hezbollah command centers, financial sites, weapons workshops and other assets are or were located, including the underground bunker were the terror group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was assassinated in 2024.

On the ground in northern Israel, rocket alerts sounded in multiple areas, including the Krayot region near Haifa, marking the first advance warning there since the ceasefire agreement. Rocket fire also sparked a fire in the Tel Dan Nature Reserve. No casualties were reported in the incident. In another case, a structure was hit near Kiryat Shmona.

The IDF said its expanded ground operations in southern Lebanon continue, following the capture of the strategic Beaufort ridge.
