Jerusalem, 27 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s government approved the initiative of the Ministries of Tourism and Transportation to build a cable car between the Galilee and Mount Tabor. Located in Lower Galilee, Mount Tabor rises above the Jezreel Valley.
The Ministries said the cable car will “significantly upgrade accessibility to some of Israel’s most prominent tourist and heritage sites, strengthen tourism in the north, and create a regional growth engine.”
According to the government’s decision, the ministries of tourism and transportation will promote the construction of a cable car that will depart from the Kfar Tabor complex and connect Nazareth, Nof HaGalil and Mount Tabor. The cable car route includes an intermediate station in Kfar Shibli, which will allow a direct connection between Nazareth, Nof HaGalil, Kfar Shibli and Mount Tabor.
The Ministries of Tourism and Transportation will now invest approximately 4 million Shekels to carry out planning and economic feasibility studies, which will be completed within approximately 12 months and will lay the infrastructure for the realization of the project.
Mount Tabor is considered one of the most important historical, religious and tourist sites in Israel and around the world. The mountain, which is associated with biblical and Christian traditions, is a pilgrimage site for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, from Israel and abroad, in addition to being a unique natural and scenic site in the Lower Galilee. However, the limited accessibility and congestion on the narrow roads leading to the mountain’s summit harm the visiting experience and the inherent tourist potential of the place.
The cable car will offer a unique tourist travel experience with aerial views, and will significantly improve accessibility and connectivity between Nazareth, the Galilee and the village of Tabor.
