Billions Allocated for Thrust for the North Northern Transportation Development Plan
Israel's government has approved the "Thrust for the North" plan, allocating billions to upgrade roads, railways, and public transport in the country's northern.
Jerusalem, 3 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The government approved the “Thrust for the North” plan: an additional 600 million Shekels are being added to the billions of Shekels already advocated for the development of the north of Israel and the restoration of infrastructure damaged in the war, the upgrading of roads and public transportation, accelerating the planned railway projects to the north and Kiryat Shmona, and expanding Highway 6 northward – Israel’s only toll highway that runs from north to south .
At the same time, the Ministry of Transportation will promote a plan to develop and upgrade the road network in the north, which includes examining the upgrade of Route 4 between Acre and Nahariya, developing bicycle and pedestrian paths, expanding public transportation infrastructure, and promoting sustainable transportation solutions.
These projects, said the Ministry of Transport, are expected to “significantly shorten travel times, strengthen the connection between the north and the center of the country, support the return of residents to the settlements along the confrontation line, encourage economic growth, and increase the attractiveness of the area for families and businesses.”
