Jerusalem, 23 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Authorities in Cyprus arrested two Palestinian men on suspicion of terrorism after searches uncovered materials that could be used to manufacture explosives, police said.

The suspects, aged 32 and 38, were arrested under court warrants following an intelligence-led operation near Governor’s Beach on Cyprus’s southern coast. Police later searched two residences in the Larnaca district used by one of the suspects, seizing evidence, including items and mixtures that authorities said may be used to prepare explosive materials.

A Larnaca District Court ordered both men held for eight days while investigators examine suspected terrorism offenses and possible participation in a criminal organization.

Police spokesman Vyron Vyronos said the case is under investigation in cooperation with other state agencies and international bodies, consistent with Cyprus’s international obligations. He added that authorities were still examining whether the suspects had been planning a terrorist attack on the island.

The investigation remains active, and Cypriot media reported that further arrests have not been ruled out.

Police said the seized evidence is still being examined and that they have not identified any alleged target. The scene remained under guard as searches continued.
