Israel Allowing Operation of Construction Cranes Via Remote Control During Emergency Period

Israel's Ministry of Labor permits remote-controlled tower crane operation during the emergency period, with strict safety measures and operator experience.

Jerusalem, 25 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Safety Administration at Israel’s Ministry of Labor announced that, after “a thorough examination and consultation with the public,” the operation of tower cranes via remote control at construction sites during the emergency period will be allowed, during the special State of emergency has been declared in the home front.

To that end, the administration released instructions for said operation that are “intended to ensure the continuity of construction while maintaining the safety of those involved during this period.”

The operation will be carried out in accordance with the following conditions:

The crane will be operated by a crane operator with at least two years of proven experience operating tower cranes.
The remote control for operating the crane has been approved in the crane’s manufacturer’s manual and its model is in the model register according to tower crane regulations.
Preparing a safety plan suitable for remote crane operation
The crane operator will complete valid training at the Vocational Training Administration at the Ministry of Labor.
Every tower crane operation will use sites and route supervisors.
Frequent inspections by a qualified inspector are required.
The activation will only be implemented for buildings up to 7 stories high.
