Head of National Headquarters for Artificial Intelligence Says Israel Entered Global AI Club

Brigadier General Erez Askal announced Israel's entry into the global AI club, emphasizing real-world applications and new international partnerships.

Jerusalem, 2 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Head of the National Headquarters for Artificial Intelligence in the Prime Minister’s Office Brigadier General (res.) Erez Askal declared, “We have entered the global AI club, Israel will shape the applications of tomorrow.”

“While other countries invest mainly in the basic layers, Israel’s competitive advantage is in injecting intelligence into the physical world and real-life problems,” he added.

The comments came at Eli Hurvitz Conference on Economics and Society held this week by the Israel Democracy Institute.

Under the direction of the Prime Minister, the headquarters is working to pass a government resolution to determine the national strategic principles in the field.

Askal listed the following achievements of the State of Israel since the establishment of the headquarters, less than six months ago:

Deep international alliances: Israel’s official joining of the global alliance Pax Silica, including a joint declaration with the US for concrete cooperation and the signing of agreements with Azerbaijan, India and Argentina.

Sovereign computing infrastructure: A commitment to making sovereign computing power available using advanced technology by 2027.

Talent and human capital: Promoting academic programs for a degree in artificial intelligence, a program for returning experts, and a program for converting a computer science degree to artificial intelligence.

Use Cases Platform: Establishing an applied platform for solving real-life problems for the challenges of citizens of Israel and the world.
