Jerusalem, 28 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Hebrew University of Jerusalem announced that Professor Yehu Moran from the Alexander Silberman Institute of Life Sciences at the Faculty of Science has been elected as a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), a distinguished community of over 2,100 leading researchers who guide the direction of life sciences globally.

Prof. Yehu Moran’s laboratory investigates how complex molecular defense systems evolve under strong evolutionary pressure, focusing on venom and immune systems. The group studies the forces that drive the origin, diversification, and long-term maintenance of these systems, from individual molecules and cells to interactions between organisms in their natural environments.

Combining molecular biology, evolutionary biology, and ecology, the lab uses cnidarians, including sea anemones, corals, jellyfish, and hydras as model organisms to uncover general principles governing the evolution of biological complexity.
