Against the backdrop of extended stays in shared and public shelters during Operation ‘Lion’s Roar’ and increasing reports of quarrels and conflicts between neighbors, the Ministry of Welfare and Social Security is operating a dedicated mediation system for the public.
The service, led by the Ministry’s Community Work Service, is designed to assist in resolving conflicts and reducing tensions created in situations of stress and uncertainty. The Ministry emphasizes that prolonged stays in crowded shared spaces, alongside security anxiety, can lead to escalation in communication between neighbors – even when it comes to disputes that can be resolved.
The Ministry also expresses concern that incidents of violence in shelters could cause some residents to avoid reaching a standard protected space and settle for less safe protection solutions.
As part of the “Gishurim” (Mediation) program, approximately 1,600 mediators who have undergone specialized training are available to the public to provide a quick and professional response.
