National Cyber Defense Bill Moves Forward in the Knesset
The Knesset has passed the National Cyber Defense Bill in its first reading, aiming to create a binding framework for cyber defense in essential Israeli.
Jerusalem, 9 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Knesset plenum approved the “National Cyber Defense Bill” in its first reading.
After more than a decade of efforts to advance the bill, the bill is intended to establish, for the first time in Israel, a uniform and binding framework for cyber defense in essential organizations and key digital service providers, in accordance with the principles and standards used in advanced countries around the world.
The law regulates several key principles for national cyber defense:
Setting a mandatory protection threshold and risk management – defining protection requirements and professional standards that will ensure the continuity of functioning of essential organizations and digital service providers.
Mandatory reporting of a significant cyber-attack – and the possibility of providing instructions for dealing with a serious cyber-attack.
A professional guidance and supervision mechanism – the essential organizations will be supervised by sectoral units in government ministries according to their area of responsibility, with professional guidance from the National Cyber Directorate.
