Beleaguered General Rallies Right-Wing Allies for Knesset Bid
Retired IDF General Ofer Winter is set to announce his Knesset bid Tuesday, gathering right-wing allies like bereaved mother Laly Derai and Yoseph Hadad.
Jerusalem, 20 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Ofer Winter, a retired IDF brigadier general who made headlines during the 2014 Gaza war by using biblical verses to rally his troops, only to see his military career derailed in the aftermath, is laying the groundwork for a Knesset bid that he is expected to announce on Tuesday.
The former Givati Brigade commander on Wednesday launched his pre-campaign with purple billboards, the color associated with the Givati Brigade, bearing the message: “Soon, you’ll have someone to vote for. August 25,” alluding to the date of announcing his run.
Winter has reportedly recruited to his Knesset slate bereaved mother Laly Derai, and Christian Arab Zionist Yoseph Hadad. Also expected to join: Givati Colonel (Res.) Eli Gino, who served under Winter, and political activist Aviv Ezra.
