Attorney General Seeks to Bar Ben-Gvir From Police Volunteer Event
Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara seeks to bar National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir from a Tel Aviv police volunteer event, citing election propaganda.
Jerusalem, 23 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara has opposed National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s participation in a Tel Aviv event honoring police readiness class volunteers, saying his presence could constitute election propaganda.
Baharav-Miara said the event itself and the minister’s participation must be examined separately, adding that even ministerial words of congratulations could provide a political platform.
A petition seeking to bar Ben Gvir from attending from Monday’s event at Menora Hall was submitted to the Central Elections Committee following media reports. Committee chairman Justice Noam Solberg is expected to rule on the petition Sunday evening.
Ben-Gvir accused Baharav-Miara of changing the rules to silence him.
