Jaffa Police Crack Down on Electric Bikes and Scooters

Jaffa police conducted a crackdown on electric bikes and scooters, issuing citations and seizing 18 vehicles due to widespread traffic violations and illegal.

Jerusalem, 23 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Jaffa police officers, traffic police from the Ayalon District, and municipal inspectors deployed along major roads and busy traffic hubs across the city over the weekend, with a particular focus on electric bicycles and scooters.

During the operation, dozens of citations were issued to electric bicycle and scooter riders for traffic violations. Among the offenses enforced were running red lights, riding on sidewalks, failing to yield the right of way, and using a mobile phone while riding.

A total of 18 electric bicycles and scooters were seized during the operation. In addition, 71 vehicles were taken off the road after safety defects were identified.

In 2025, a record 2,055 people were hospitalized following accidents involving electric bicycles and scooters. Electric scooters accounted for 56% of the hospitalizations, with 1,142 injured people, a 34% increase, while electric bicycles accounted for 41%, with 823 injured.

According to reports, about 85% of Israel’s electric two-wheeled vehicles are illegally modified to reach speeds of up to 50 kph, well above the legal limit.
