Joint announcement from the IDF Spokesperson and the Police Spokesperson: In cooperation between the IDF and the Israel Police: An arms smuggling attempt was thwarted in the eastern border area following a pursuit by Air Force observation units and forces.

The suspect who was arrested and the handguns were transferred for further treatment by the Southern District of the Israel Police. As part of the new security concept and strengthening defense on the eastern border, a control headquarters was established in the Dead Sea sector last month under the command of Division 96. The control forces are deployed in the area with the aim of maintaining the security of the residents of the sector and the citizens of the State of Israel. The IDF and the Israel Police view with great severity any involvement or assistance of Israeli citizens in the activity of smuggling weapons across the borders, which endangers the security of the state, and will continue to act to thwart and exhaust the full severity of the law with those involved.
