Jerusalem, 12 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Sixty-nine people were killed in workplace accidents in Israel during 2025, according to figures presented Tuesday to Knesset’s Labor and Welfare Committee, which warned that weak enforcement and legislative delays continue to endanger workers.
Labor Ministry Safety Directorate head Hezi Schwartzman said 21 fatalities have already been recorded since the start of 2026. Committee chair Michal Waldiger called the deaths a “systemic failure” and urged immediate action rather than “another report or another committee.”
Advocacy groups and bereaved families criticized inadequate oversight, particularly in the construction industry, where workplace death rates remain far higher than in other developed countries.
