The Ministry of Health reports a cow Infected withRabies in a pasture between Koach Junction and Yesod HaMa’ala Junction in the Upper Galilee. Three people who were exposed to the cow were referred for preventive rabies treatment. The report was received on February 25, 2026.
Anyone who was in contact with the animal, or whose animals may have been in contact with it, between February 5, 2026 and February 23, 2026 (inclusive), is asked to urgently contact the Safed District Health Bureau at 04-6994200 or 04-6994257, or the Health Bureau nearest to their home, to assess the need for preventive rabies treatment.
The Ministry of Health asks:
- Parents to check with their children whether they had contact with suspicious animals and to contact the Health Bureau urgently if so.
- Pet owners to contact their municipal veterinarian to verify their pets’ vaccination status.
- To share this information with hikers, visitors, and residents in the area and nearby communities.
The Ministry of Health reminds anyone bitten or scratched by an animal to immediately wash the area thoroughly with running water and soap, disinfect the wound, and contact a Health Bureau to determine whether preventive rabies treatment is needed.
