Jerusalem, 28 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Health is monitoring the outbreak of the Bundibugyo Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as reported by the World Health Organization. As of May 26, nearly 1,000 cases and over 200 deaths have been reported. In neighboring Uganda, a few cases have been reported, all imported from the Democratic Republic of the Congo or with a known epidemiological link to cases originating there.
The Ministry recommends avoiding non-essential travel to areas where there is a known and active disease. In the event of travel to these areas, the Ministry of Health recommends receiving individual advice at a clinic for travelers abroad as detailed in the guidelines for travelers abroad on the Ministry of Health website.
Travelers who have returned from areas where Ebola is prevalent, and develop a fever or unusual symptoms within 21 days of their return, are asked to avoid contact with others, contact a medical professional immediately by phone, and inform them during the call that they have been in an area where Ebola is prevalent.
