Israeli Medical Students Join Kenyan Hospitals in New Humanitarian Training Program
Hebrew University and Hadassah Medical Center students are in Kenya for a new humanitarian training program, focusing on emergency medicine and pediatric.
Jerusalem, 31 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A first-of-its-kind humanitarian medical delegation from the Faculty of Medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Hadassah Medical Center began operating in Kenya, combining clinical training for medical students with direct support for local healthcare teams.
The initiative, known as the Humanitarian Elective, is part of the faculty’s Global and Humanitarian Medicine Program. Working alongside Kenyan physicians, the Israeli team is focusing on emergency medicine and pediatric trauma care, including training in trauma management and point-of-care ultrasound.
Medical students are also integrating into hospital departments to gain experience in resource-limited settings. The program aims to become a permanent academic track, with annual international delegations designed to strengthen both medical education and global health cooperation.
