Jerusalem, 29 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva marked its 1,000th lung transplant this week, using the organs of fallen IDF soldier Sgt. Maj. (res.) Asael Babad, the hospital announced.

Babad, 38, a father of five, was critically wounded in a Hamas attack in southern Gaza in October and passed away last week.

His lungs were transplanted into 53-year-old Amram Hazan, who suffered from advanced chronic lung disease. “I am breathing on my own again and have returned to life,” Hazan said.
