Jerusalem, 28 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israel Fire and Rescue Commissioner Eyal Caspi signed an order prohibiting the lighting of fires in open areas throughout the country from Sunday, May 3, 2026, until Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at midnight.
The fire ban order applies throughout Israel, and prohibits the lighting of fires in open areas. Technical work that creates a fire or a fire will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the order.
However, lighting a fire inside a designated facility for preparing or heating food, such as a barbecue, is permitted.
The ban means that there can be no traditional bon fires lit throughout the country in celebration of next week’s Lag Ba’Omer holiday as is the custom.
Such bans are ordinarily implemented during dry hot weather to prevent forest fires.
