Jerusalem, 27 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics released its report on Israel’s population after the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023 – “A socio-economic picture of Israel and the Gaza-Lebanon border, 2024: Data from the Face of Society Report No. 16.” Here is the significant data related to tourism in the country.
In the last quarter of 2023 (the quarter began six days before the October 7 massacre) there was a sharp decline in the number of tourist overnight stays, reaching 0.5 million (2.4 million in the last quarter of 2022). The number of Israeli overnight stays increased sharply as a result of the addition of approximately 4.6 million overnight stays by evacuees due to the war.
In 2024, approximately 22.5 million overnight stays were recorded in tourist hotels, a decrease of 13.6% compared to 2023. The number of overnight stays by tourists decreased sharply by 75.9%, reaching 1.9 million. The number of overnight stays by Israelis (excluding evacuees; for vacation and leisure purposes) amounted to 13.2 million (a decrease of 3.8%). The number of overnight stays by evacuees was approximately 7.5 million.
