Even After Easing Import Restrictions Israeli Consumers Still Paying a Premium for Butter

Israeli consumers continue to pay a premium for butter, with prices nearly double import costs even after import restrictions were eased.

Jerusalem, 28 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A review by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security reveals that despite the opening of the market and the removal of supervision, Israeli consumers pay almost double the import price for butter.

In the last four years the consumer price of imported butter has increased by about 28 Shekels ($9.3), , about 74%, per kilogram, while the price paid by the importer has increased by only about 16 Shekels.

In 2025, approximately 6,000 tons of locally produced and imported lump butter were sold in retail chains.
