Israels Foreign Minister Meets German Chancellor, Agree on Iranian Threat
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin, where they agreed on the critical need to prevent Iran from acquiring.
Jerusalem, 5 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Foreign Minister Gideon Saar met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz Tuesday afternoon at the Chancellor’s office in Berlin.
During the meeting, the two discussed relations between the countries and various political and regional issues, said Sa’ar’s office, and Saar thanked the Chancellor for his friendship with Israel.
Minister Saar referred to the Iranian regime’s firing on the United Arab Emirates last night and said that yesterday’s attack once again proves the insane nature of the Iranian regime. The minister said that “anyone who sees how this regime behaves towards its neighbors in the region understands the necessity of preventing it from obtaining nuclear weapons.”
There was agreement at the meeting regarding the importance of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and ensuring freedom of navigation in space without threats.
The Foreign Minister also expressed appreciation for the Chancellor’s clear words on the issue of anti-Semitism and his commitment to taking practical steps against it.
Sa’ar also spoke at a conference of the Economic Council Germany.
“60 years of relations – never a given, but of great substance,” he said. “Israel’s economy remains strong despite crises: “In a world where security is linked to economic stability, Israel is stronger than ever.”
“The global order, the free world, and Europe as a whole face major challenges,” he added. “Without strong and reliable partnerships, it will be very difficult to overcome them. I am convinced that Israel can help Germany master the challenges of the present and future – just as Germany can support Israel in a similar way.”
