Jerusalem, 4 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced this evening his decision to open for the first time an Israeli embassy in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.
The Foreign Minister instructed his Director General, Attorney Eden Bar-Tal, to act quickly and efficiently to establish the New Embassy and to immediately begin the required procedures for selecting the ambassador.
Minister Sa’ar delivered the announcement immediately after the parliament in Slovenia approved the establishment of the new government headed by Janez Janša.
“Janez Janša is a prominent friend of Israel and his election creates a unique opportunity to advance the bilateral relations between the countries, which were at a low point in recent years due to the hostility of the previous government in Ljubljana,” he said. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs under my leadership will act without delay to exhaust this opportunity.”
“An Israeli embassy is more than a diplomatic mission,” added Sa’ar. “It is a statement of friendship, dialogue, and a shared belief in freedom, democracy, and security.”
