Five People to Be Indicted in Extortion Scheme

Five people will be indicted in an extortion and money laundering scheme targeting residents and security companies in Hura and Kiryat Gat.

Jerusalem, 25 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israel Police reported that indictments will be filed against three people from the Bedouin Village Hura, which is located near Be’er Sheva, and two people from Kiryat Gat in the upper Negev, on charges related to the alleged “extortion of protection money, collection of protection money, and money laundering,” against residents of Hura and owners of security companies.

According to the suspicion, three residents of Hura extorted and collected protection money from contractors at work sites in the Rishon LeZion area, under the guise of security services, while security companies provided them with accounting cover.

As part of a covert investigation conducted by the police, an infrastructure work company was established that arrived at the work site, and after some time, the suspects approached the contractor regarding payment for security services.

This is another example of Israel’s national campaign to stamp out the extortion rackets that go after local businesses.
