Dozens of Israelis Arrested Attempting to Illegally Cross Into Syria
Dozens of Israeli citizens were detained by the IDF for attempting to illegally cross the border into Syria, an act condemned by the military.
Jerusalem, 5 July, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) reported that earlier today, Sunday, dozens of Israeli citizens attempted to cross the border into Syrian territory. An IDF force rushed to the location, acted to prevent the citizens from crossing the border, and detained them.
The detained citizens were transferred for further handling by the Israel Police.
The IDF said in a statement that it “strongly condemns their attempt to cross and emphasizes that this is a serious incident constituting a criminal offense that endangers IDF forces and the citizens themselves.”
The IDF did not provide any information about the people arrested or as to why they attempted to enter Syria. However, Druze-Israelis in the Golan have families in Syria and many have attempted to cross the border in the past.
