Israels Galmed to Acquire Colospan in Bid to Build $6B GI Medtech Platform
Israel's Galmed Pharmaceuticals is acquiring Colospan Ltd. to build a $6B GI medtech platform, leveraging Colospan's CE-marked bypass device.
Jerusalem, 9 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Ramat Gan-based Galmed Pharmaceuticals has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Israeli medical device company Colospan Ltd., aiming to build a gastrointestinal-focused medtech and biopharmaceutical platform targeting a $6 billion market.
Colospan’s flagship CG-100 intraluminal bypass device, which holds CE marking in Europe and FDA Breakthrough Device Designation in the U.S., is designed to reduce anastomotic leaks and the need for diverting stomas after colorectal surgery. Following completion, expected in Q2 2026, Colospan will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Galmed. The companies said the deal leverages Israel’s clinical innovation ecosystem and Galmed’s public company infrastructure to accelerate global commercialization, initially in Europe and ongoing U.S. trials.
