Jerusalem, 22 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Ministry of Transportation and Israel Railways are beginning construction of the “Yerushalim Khan” (by the Jerusalem Kahn theatre just south of downtown next to the old First Station compound) station, as part of the extension of the high-speed line from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem into the city center. The project, which is at the heart of the national railway system’s strategic development plan for 2040, is a key pillar in strengthening Jerusalem’s status as the capital of Israel and a hub for tourism, commerce, culture and transportation.

The extension of the line, which is approximately 5.5 kilometers long, will be carried out entirely in an underground tunnel, and includes the construction of two new stations: “Yerushalim Merkaz” (Central Jerusalem – in town) on Jaffa Street and “Yerushalim Khan” in the German Colony.

Both stations will be built approximately 60 meters below ground level, similar to the Yitzhak Navon station. The Khan station will be located near significant tourist sites such as the Bell Garden, the station complex, and the Old City, and will offer a new and convenient gateway to the heart of Jerusalem. The new station will provide exceptional connectivity and connectivity, and will integrate with the Blue and Red Light Rail lines, as well as the future cable car to the Old City.
