Animal description: The ministry of Health reports a small white domestic Chihuahua dog infected with rabies in the community of Aniam in the Golan Heights.  The infected dog was bitten about one month ago by a stray dog in the community of Katzrin in the Golan Heights. Notification about the infected dog was received today, December 22, 2025. 
Dates: November 27, 2025 through December 21, 2025, inclusive
Details: Five people who were exposed to the dog were referred to receive preventive treatment against rabies.

Instructions:
We ask anyone who had contact, or whose animals had contact, in the incident area with the infected animal or with a stray animal on the dates listed above to urgently contact the Safed Health Bureau, phone 04-699-4257 or 04-699-4200, or the health bureau closest to their place of residence, to assess the need for preventive treatment.
After business hours and during the weekend, go to a hospital emergency room.

Pet owners are asked to contact the municipal/regional veterinarian of the Eastern Galilee cluster (*8451) to verify their pets’ vaccination status.

Parents are asked to check with their children whether they had contact with suspicious animals and to urgently contact the health bureau if so.

The Ministry of Health again reminds anyone who was bitten or scratched by an animal to immediately wash the area thoroughly with running water and soap, disinfect it with antiseptics, and contact the health bureau to determine whether preventive rabies treatment is needed.
