Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure ‘Strengthens’ Sciences in Higher Education
Jerusalem, 22 October, 2025 (TPS-IL) — With the start of the higher education academic year, which generally begins a week after the end of the Jewish holiday season, Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is presenting a series of “significant steps” to strengthen higher education: broad support for research and scholarships, investment in technological innovation, the establishment of charging stations and energy efficiency on campuses, as well as a new program to encourage electrical engineers to integrate into the public and government sectors.
“All of this paints a picture of a strategic partnership between academia and the state, designed to ensure a smarter, cleaner, and safer energy future for Israel,” said the Ministry.
One of the ministry’s new initiatives is a program to encourage electrical engineers to integrate into the public sector and government companies. Today, most graduates turn to the high-tech industry due to more tempting conditions and sometimes also to avoid licensing exams. To change this trend, the ministry, together with the Association of Electrical, Electronics and Energy Engineers in Israel, initiated a unique encouragement program.
Furthermore, the potential for installing solar panels on the roofs of higher education institutions is estimated at approximately 100 megawatts, which could generate approximately 165,000 megawatt hours of clean electricity per hour.
According to the program, which is currently being finalized, outstanding students will receive a scholarship equal to a full year’s tuition and will be able to integrate into designated student positions in government and public companies.
