Jerusalem, 12 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) — As temperatures and humidity rise, the risk of an increase in the prevalence of mosquitoes that can cause nuisance bites and even transmit diseases increases. Israel’s Ministry of Environmental Protection is launching an information campaign calling on the general public to dry up standing water sources in and around the home.

“This is an effective and safe means of preventing mosquito breeding, reducing bites, and reducing the risk of illness in humans,” said the Ministry.

The campaign calls on the public to dry up standing water in private spaces, including yards, gardens, balconies, and even inside the home, and to contact the local authority in cases of mosquito infestations or standing water in public spaces.

The ministry emphasizes that in most cases, spraying against mosquitoes will provide a quick solution to the mosquito problem. However, this solution will be short-term, since it does not prevent the emergence of the next breeding cycle, which is very likely already in the process of developing in nearby sources of stagnant water. When another cycle completes the maturation process, the mosquito nuisance will return. Therefore, drying up stagnant water sources is the tool for interrupting the reproductive chain and significantly reducing the number of mosquitoes in the residential area over time.
