Israel Places Automatic Beverage Container Return Machines Across Country for Environmental Benefit

Jerusalem, 30 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Ministry of Environmental Protection is updating that as of today, September 30, 65 automatic beverage container return machines are already operating in public spaces in 15 different local authorities in the periphery, from a broad call for proposals totaling 41 million shekels, in which 77 authorities won 288 machines. The automatic machines were purchased with support from the Ministry of Environmental Protection, which also includes maintenance and removal of the machine for three years.

“To make beverage container recycling more accessible and ensure that deposit refunds reach all residents of the country – even in remote areas where access to retail businesses that allow the return of beverage containers and the collection of deposit fees is lower – the ministry decided to support local authorities in Israel’s periphery in the purchase and maintenance of beverage container return machines at a rate of up to 95% of the costs,” said the Ministry.

The project is being promoted in collaboration with the Center for Local Government, the Center for Regional Government and the Society for Economy and Finance.
