Jerusalem, 24 November, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics released the data collection for International Children’s Day 2025, which was observed last week. At the end of September 2025, the population aged 0-17 was estimated at 3.197 million children, which is 31.5% of the total population in Israel.
Of these, 2.43 million were Jews and others (which is 31.3% of the total Jewish and others population), 747,400 Arab children (which is 35.1% of the total Arab population), and 19,800 foreign children (which is 7.6% of the total foreign population).
In the large cities (with more than 100,000 residents), the percentage of children is about 29.8%. The highest percentage of children was in Beit Shemesh (51.4%), followed by Bnei Brak (48.1%) and Jerusalem (37.2%). In a significant number of the large cities, the percentage of children is lower than the national level. The lowest percentage of children was in Bat Yam (19.1%), Tel Aviv-Yafo (21.3%) and Ramat Gan (21.8%).
The number of children up to age 17 per household (in households with children of this age) was 2.45 on average at the national level. In the large cities, the highest average number of children per household was in Bnei Brak (3.59), Beit Shemesh (3.54) and Jerusalem (2.98). Tel Aviv-Yafo and Ramat Gan had the lowest average of children up to age 17 per household (1.83 and 1.85, respectively).
Of the children living in households, most lived with both parents (about 92% of the children), and the rest lived with only one parent. Most children in single-parent families lived with their mother (about 82%).
In 2024, 181,614 newborns were born. The total fertility rate for women in Israel is estimated at an average of 2.87 children per woman.
