Israel Accelerates Fortification of Northern Border Towns

Israel rapidly fortifying northern border towns near Lebanon with 1,900 units, 600 near completion. Defense Ministry leads "Northern Shield" initiative.

Jerusalem, 24 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israeli security officials reported Thursday significant progress in the “Northern Shield” defense initiative, aimed at protecting border communities near Lebanon.

Approximately 1,900 fortified units are being established across dozens of communities within one kilometer of the northern fence. Of these, some 600 are nearing completion. The effort is led by the Defense Ministry’s Northern Defender administration and the Engineering and Construction Division.

“This is a life-saving national program,” said Gil Galron, who heads the initiative.
