Jerusalem, 16 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israeli climate-tech company CarbonBlue has launched the world’s first integration of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) into a working desalination plant. The pilot project, installed at a facility in Ma’agan Michael south of Haifa, processes 10% of the plant’s intake, removing 40 metric tons of CO2 annually — with plans to scale up to 400 tons.

By capturing CO2 from water using a lime-based reactor, the system improves plant efficiency and lowers emissions.

“Carbon removal doesn’t have to be disruptive or costly,” said CEO Dr. Dan Deviri. U.S. industries are already exploring the technology’s potential to decarbonize at scale.
