Seven Israeli Sports Associations Added to Public Bodies Subject to Freedom of Information Act
Jerusalem, 29 October, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Seven sports associations in Israel have been added to the list of public bodies to which the Freedom of Information Act applies. Additional associations are expected to be added later, said the Government Freedom of Information Unit at the Ministry of Justice.
The sports associations added to the list are the Israel Wrestling Association, the Israel Archery Association, the Israel Baseball Association, the Israel Kickboxing Association, the Israel Aviation Club, the Water Ski Association, and the Israel Karate Association.
According to Section 9B of the Sports Law, 5748-1988, “an association and union that receives support under the Budget Basics Law and whose annual business turnover exceeds one and a half million new shekels” are public authorities and the Freedom of Information Law applies to them, except with regard to the identities of donors who have explicitly stated that they do not wish to have their identities disclosed.
Like the other entities to which the law applies, these associations are now required to appoint a person in charge of making information available to the public and to respond to freedom of information requests subject to the limitations specified in the law, as well as to publish proactive information that the Freedom of Information Law requires, such as an annual report on the association’s activities.
