Jerusalem, 3 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety is accelerating the national program to encourage walking and cycling, which is designed to reduce road congestion and improve the quality of life in urban areas, through the use of sustainable transportation, with a number of plans.
Among them are the National Strategic Plan for Sustainable Urban Mobility adopted by government ministries, the National Plan for Light Transportation Infrastructure, and the National Urban Walking Plan, published in 2024.
These plans are intended to create a perceptual change in urban space – a shift from planning based primarily on the private vehicle, to planning that gives priority to pedestrians, cyclists, public transportation, and small vehicles.
