Jerusalem, 11 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Welfare and Social Security is opening sheltered overnight spaces for senior citizens and people with disabilities to stay in if they have no protected area in their homes. The move is being made as Iran and Hezbollah continue to launch attacks on Israel.
As part of the initiative, the ministry will provide budgetary and professional support to authorities that will convert public buildings, schools and daycare centers into protected and safe accommodation complexes.
The move is being rolled out nationwide after a successful pilot in several authorities, which proved that shared accommodation not only saves lives, but also alleviates loneliness and strengthens community resilience during emergencies.
