Jerusalem, 19 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana intends to resist a High Court of Justice ruling compelling the Knesset to revote on a new state comptroller. The speaker posted on X on Tuesday, “The Knesset will not meekly accept the trampling of its authority. … The High Court is not the sovereign. The Knesset has already had its say.”

In July, the High Court of Justice ruled unanimously that the election of attorney Michael Ravilo as State Comptroller was invalid. The ruling followed reports that Knesset members had violated the principle of secret voting by documenting their ballots on their phones.

On Wednesday, Kan11 broadcast Ohana’s talk with Likud activists in which he boasted, “We managed to draw a red line for the High Court.”

“We told them: The Knesset has spoken,” Ohana continued. “No Knesset has ever dared, in quotation marks, to defy the Supreme Ruler, the Supreme Court. I am happy and proud that this Knesset did so.”

Ohana won third place on his party’s slate in Monday’s Likud primaries.
