Jerusalem, 9 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement just moments ago saying that Israel will enter into negotiations with the government of Lebanon on a possible ceasefire.

“In light of the repeated requests from Lebanon to open direct negotiations with Israel,” said Netanyahu, “I instructed the cabinet yesterday to open direct negotiations with Lebanon at the earliest possible time.”

Netanyahu emphasized that the negotiations, should they come about, will focus on the disarmament of Hezbollah from its weapons and the regulation of peace relations between Israel and Lebanon.

“Israel appreciates the call today by the Prime Minister of Lebanon to demilitarize Beirut,” said Netanyahu.
