Jerusalem, 26 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Knesset plenum approved in second and third reading, thereby passing into law, the amendment initiated by the Ministry of Labor to protect workers from termination from their jobs in times of emergency.
The amendment stipulates that protection from dismissal will be provided to an employee who is absent or has not performed work under the following circumstances:
An employee who evacuated his home due to damage to his home as a result of the war (with the approval of the local authority, this approval must be presented to the employer).
A spouse of a permanent/regular service member, security and rescue forces, and someone called up for work service, while the other parent is looking after their common child(ren) (children under the age of 14, and/or children up to the age of 21 with special needs). The above also applies to a foster parent.
A parent whose children’s educational institution has been closed by order of the local authority/educational institution, provided that the spouse is absent and cannot care for the children during this period and no care solution has been provided by the employer.
